Portrait of Tess Hunneybell, British trauma psychotherapist and retreat facilitator

About Tess Hunneybell

I’m Tess Hunneybell, a British psychotherapist with over two decades of experience supporting people through trauma and complex emotional challenges.

I work primarily with women who are thoughtful, capable, and self-aware, yet find themselves living with anxiety, emotional exhaustion, or patterns that no longer make sense. My work is grounded in safety, respect, and the belief that healing happens best when a person feels met rather than managed.

The greatest gift we can give another is to feel safe.

About My Practice

My practice is grounded in gentle, trauma-informed psychotherapy that respects the intelligence of both the mind and the body. I do not believe healing requires reliving trauma, forcing emotional release, or placing labels on the human experience.

Many of the people I work with understand their history well. What brings them to this work is not a lack of insight, but the feeling of being stuck — living with anxiety, shutdown, or emotional strain that thinking alone has not resolved.

My role is to help create the conditions in which the nervous system can begin to settle, integrate, and regain choice. This work is relational, carefully paced, and held with attention to safety, consent, and regulation rather than intensity or catharsis.

I work with an integrated, evidence-informed approach drawn from contemporary trauma science, while remaining deeply human in how the work is held.

Social Justice & Humanitarian Work

I believe care extends beyond the therapy room. Alongside my clinical work, I have been involved in community and humanitarian initiatives supporting people living in crisis, guided by the same core principles that shape my therapeutic practice: safety, dignity, and steady, practical support.

I founded and volunteer with Every Kid Counts – Senegal, a grassroots collective focused on sustaining vulnerable children. The work centres on access to nutrition, clean water, basic medical care, clothing, education, sport, and safe spaces where children can experience something many have been denied — the chance to simply be children.

I also previously led a trauma-care project with The Rothschild Foundation, supporting women and children newly arrived from Ukraine as they integrated with host families. This work included direct trauma support, workshops, and a memorial garden initiative rooted in remembrance, belonging, and repair.

Over the years, I have contributed to projects with other organisations in Southern Spain, Dominica, and Mexico. These experiences continue to inform my values and reinforce my commitment to work that is grounded, compassionate, and human.

This work is not about fixing what is broken, but about creating the conditions in which safety, trust, and resilience can return. If my approach resonates, you are welcome to explore the rest of the site in your own time or get in touch for a complimentary call.
